A close friend to fallen Kikuyu musician John DeMathew has spoken on the widely speculated love affair between the deceased and Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege.
DeMathew’s friends, anonymously quoted by Nairobian, said the musician met Sabina in the early 2000s and the two fell in love.
She was interning at Kameme FM where DeMathew was a frequent visitor for interviews and lobbying for his music to be played on air.
The friends claimed that their love affair resulted in the birth of two of Sabina’s three children.
The relationship, however, did not work out even as DeMathew pleaded with the soft-spoken radio presenter to become his second wife.
The new love did not work out as the friends who spoke on the union said they dissuaded Sabina against agreeing to Ng’ang’a wedding proposal on account of his controversial personality.
“We were not comfortable with that union. We loved Sabina because she had done so much for us. We were worried and wanted the best for her…Sabina eventually dumped him towards 2012. She decided to focus on the Murang’a Woman Rep seat,” one of her friends was quoted by Nairobian.
A few months after their separation, the 66-year old pastor wed Mercy Murugi – a young woman in her early thirties.
Ng’ang’a recently said he had decided to marry a wife who was half her age because he wanted someone “with low mileage”.
Sabina would later marry former Kenya Dairy Board managing director Maina Gathitu and become his second wife
