198 more cured as Covid-19 caseload nears 40,000

198 patients have been cured from COVID-19 virus as Kenya reports 139 new Covid-19 cases from 1,774 samples.

The bulk of those cured were being treated at various hospitals where 46 were in the home-based care (HBC) system. The HBC was launched a few months after the pandemic came to these shores.

The Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi also announced that nine patients didn’t make it bringing the total death toll to 659 in the last 24 hours.

Of the 139 that tested positive for the virus, there were 125 Kenyans and 14 foreigners.

Burials

The Ministry of Health (MoH) as also announced new measures on burials.  Whereas in the past, people that died were burried by medical workers clad in white PPEs, the ministry has said the new burial protocol will allow more participation by family members; the end of PPE-clad health officials.

The total Covid-19 cases encompassing all that have ever been reported totals to 37,218.
