A 75-year-old businessman is in police custody for repeatedly defiling a 10-year-old primary school pupil in Kosele Township, Rachuonyo South Sub County.
Police arrested the man after neighbours busted him in the act on Wednesday morning.
Residents claimed they developed defilement suspicions after observing that the minor would often visit the man’s house in the morning instead of going to school.
One of the residents pretended to casually visit the old man after seeing the girl going to his house and once the suspect opened the door, the neighbour noticed the girl lying naked on the bed.
He notified one of the girl’s teachers who grilled her and established that the elderly man had, on several occasions, defiled the minor.
It is then that the teacher reported the matter to children’s affairs officers who arrested the man and detained him at Kosele Police Station.
“It is true we have arrested him so that he can face punitive legal measures,” affirmed Rachuonyo South Sub County Police Commander Patrick Onsando.
He called on the public to safeguard children, noting that the future depends on their well being.
“The future generation depends on the children we have today. Destroying a child means destroying the future generation,” Onsando advised.
Investigations into the case have commenced pending the suspect’s arraignment.
