Vocal blogger Cyprian Nyakundi has today, Friday, July 31 called out the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for arresting popular gossip blogger Edgar Obare.
According to the blogger, the DCI is misusing the cyber crime act to bully bloggers even as criminals walk free.
“The arrest of Edgar Obare is wrong. The DCI is misusing the Cyber Crime act to bully bloggers as criminals walk free…. Now they are coming for entertainment bloggers and soon it will be fashion bloggers,” the blogger wrote on his social media pages.
Obare was arrested on Thursday, July 30 in his Kisumu home and escorted to Nairobi for further actions.
Obare was summoned by DCI early this week over a social media post about Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Youtuber Natalie “Tewa” Wanjiru.
“So yesterday, I was informed I am being summoned to the DCI. I was kindly requested by an officer to appear at the DCI HQ without fail in the next few days. I am told the purpose of this summon is to answer questions about Natalie Tewa,” the blogger said.
Nyakundi also called out Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho for ‘using’ the DCI to intimidate bloggers for personal gains.
He recalled how the county boss sent the disbanded Flying Squad to arrest him in 2017 following a fraud exposé.
“We cannot solve civil matters with guns and DCI summons and Joho is wrong to push DCI to “Punish” a blogger,” Nyakundi said.
“In 2017, Joho sent the disbanded flying squad to arrest me after I exposed how he was looting via Njuca construction and what Obare is going through is just gimmicks meant to make Joho happy,” he added.
The blogger finally vowed like he has always done, to fight for bloggers and do away with retrogressive law seeking conservatory orders against the law.
“In the meantime, I filed an appeal challenging the retrogressive law seeking conservatory orders against the law as the matter is heard,” he concluded.
