Drama ensued in Bomet on Sunday afternoon after a much-anticipated prophecy of a local church clergy to ascend to heaven failed to happen.
Bishop Fredrick Rotich of The Lost Glory Restoration Center (LOGORC)
is said to have told his congregants a week ago that God had promised to take
him to heaven alive on the fateful day.
His proclamation forced hundreds of his followers and
residents from across the county to throng to his church, situated at Kipsoen,
Longisa in Bomet East, to witness the happening.
From as early as 8 am, residents continued to arrive at the church.
The church service went on as members kept waiting for the
miracle to happen.
As time went by, they became impatient and began moving out.
Rotich, who was not present during the service, is said to have asked his members to attend the service to witness the fulfilment of the prophecy about his ascension to heaven the same way God took Elijah in the Bible.
Some of the church members who spoke to the press outside
the church claimed the pastor had on several occasions in his sermons said he
was going to be lifted to heaven at a location in the area.
“He told us that God has recognized what he has done to the
people on earth and he has finished his job so he was going to be taken and
that his soul would go to heaven but we are going to bury the body here,” said
Snider Korir, one of the church members.
Nathan Kirui, another resident, said the testimony was
strange and baffling hence their decision to attend the church to witness.
The bishop is alleged to have built a house at his home and
told his family members including the church members that he was not going to
live in it.
As the clock continued to tick and with the expectant crowd
becoming impatient. they dispersed and decided to mount a search for the bishop
who had failed to show up.
It later became evident that he had gone into hiding after
his mission failed to happen as expected.
Efforts by the area chief and security officers to search for
him went futile.
We could also not reach him for a comment over the allegations.
