Deputy President Dr. William Ruto
has successfully won the narrative that depicts the challenges facing Kenya, as
a consequence of incompetence of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his advisors. To
argue that the presidency is comprised of the president and his deputy in no
longer feasible. The deputy president’s alienation from the day to day running
of the government is evident and no longer a secret. To this end, Uhuru Kenyatta’s
failures are his and his alone.
President Uhuru Kenyattas
failures are limitless; he has failed in every front. There is no single achievement
that will be credited to his name. If you say SGR, I will say that SGR has been
one of Kenya’s biggest blunders that should never be repeated. It’s a rip off
of significant proportions. The project was good, but its implementation and price
tag points to what is wrong in Kenya.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has presided
over the epic collapse of the Kenyan economy. Our current state of the economy
is riddled with Billions of dollars in external debt, rampant unemployment, rundown
healthcare system and Corruption at the national and local government level,
just to name but a few. There is blatant abuse of power by government security
agencies and obvious misrepresentation of facts. The government of Uhuru
Kenyatta has failed.
These failures have led to what
is now called the “Tanga Tanga” movement. For some reason, the unapologetic,
bold and indefatigable movement is the energy that fuels Deputy President
William Rutos energy.
There are different types of
Tanga Tanga movement supporters. There are those who are tired of kikuyu
hegemony, who believe that kikuyus dominate every sector of the Kenyan socio-political
and economic fabric. To this group, William Ruto is the best candidate to dismantle
the dominance of the kikuyu mafia who control the Kenyan economy and have a
hand in determining the next president.
The next group of the Tanga Tanga
movement supporters are those who believe in ending the dynasties. That is the
dominance of the Kenyan politics by sons of former Kenyan leaders. These includes
Uhuru Kenyatta, Gideon Moi, Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi among others. It is
believed that these group of politicians want to work out a deal that will
protect their interests and their wealth, some of which was acquired by corrupt
means. In William Ruto, the son of a peasant, they see a leader who will end
these dynasties hold onto power and usher in a commoner and someone outside the
Then there is another group of
supporters who hang onto William Ruto for pollical survival. They include
seating members of parliament and other politicians whose political careers solely
depend on the success of Deputy president William Rutos presidential candidacy.
They are the ones making a lot of noise whenever it appears that the deputy
president is facing opposition in that regard. Members of these group owe their
political success to the deputy president and hence, he is their political
Then there is the last group of
politicians who are Tumbocrats, who have positioned themselves as regional
kingpins to attract the attention of the deputy president and benefit from the
financial windfall that this positioning brings. They also hope that the deputy
president will finance their elections in 2022. Their loyalty is purely
motivated by finical gain.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has
failed as a leader of Jubilee party and as a president of the Republic of Kenya.
He appears to be the president on autopilot. Because of his incompetence and
lack of leadership in Jubilee party and in the country, DP William Ruto has
become more emboldened and presenting himself as an alternative to the
The attempt to stop William Ruto
is becoming more of a trial and error because there is no basis both legal and
moral that can logically justify the mess that we have found ourselves in under
president Uhuru Kenyatta.
