Twenty-five employees of a hotel in Naivasha located along the Moi South Lake Road, were placed under quarantine on March 23.
This came after the government was able to backtrace the movements of a French national who was among the 8 who had tested positive for Covid-19.
According to Naivasha Sub-county Commissioner Mbogo Mathioya, it has since been established that the tourist checked in at the hotel on March 9, with his spouse, before checking out the following day and heading to Amboseli.
“We have put the 25 hotel workers on a 14-day self-quarantine within the hotel,” Mathioya revealed.
One of the workers at the hotel, who preferred to remain anonymous told a local publication that the general mood among his colleagues was gloomy and fearful.
“We are really scared after we learned that one of our visitors was positive,” they disclosed.
Reports further stated that the couple moved on from Amboseli to Kilifi where the man tested positive for the virus that was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The sub-county commissioner stated that 25 other individuals who stayed at the hotel during the period were also being tracked down.
He announced that the staffers were in stable condition and that none had exhibited any signs or symptoms, however, he reiterated that the government was not willing to take any risks.
Three more individuals have also been placed under quarantine – one, a woman who recently travelled back from the US.
“The woman was on quarantine for 14 days but on day 12, she left her home and we have had to put her and two others on quarantine,” Mathioya disclosed.
