According to County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Anthony Sunguti, the suspects were nabbed and items recovered in a crackdown on Monday.

This was following numerous complaints from members of the public of a gang snatching phones in Nakuru town which prompted the police to conduct the operation.

The suspects failed to explain why they were holding the huge number of mobile phones, a laptop and a CPU as revealed by police.

He said a majority of Nakuru residents who buy second-hand phones from dealers are unaware the same phones have been stolen from other people.

Residents who have lost their phones have been urged by Sunguti to report to the office and prove ownership before the same is released to them.

He a special team has been set up to deal with the phone theft racket saying they will establish hotspots within the County and ensure those behind it are brought to book.

On criminal gangs, Sunguti said they have managed to contain their operations saying police have recently arrested three suspected to be heads of criminal groups.

Due to the continuous efforts of a multi-agency team in the slum areas of Bondeni, Kivumbini and Rhonda, the activities have reduced.
