The high-level training conducted in partnership with the U.S embassy in Nairobi, through the Anti-Terrorism Assistance office (ATA), also covered highly specialised units such as suicide bombings, among others.
39 detectives have graduated this afternoon at the DCI Academy, following 3 weeks of rigorous training in a counter-terror tactical commanders course.
While addressing the course participants, DCI’s Director in charge of the Investigations Bureau, John Gachomo, commended the detectives for their resilience, adding that the training they had acquired was a big boost to the Directorate’s preparedness in case of a terror-related threat.
Gachomo, who was representing the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, thanked the team of facilitators from the U.S Embassy’s Anti-Terrorism Assistance office, for facilitating the course. The team was led by the deputy regional security officer, Prestons Williams.
At the same time, 44 officers who recently joined the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Anti Terror Police Unit (ATPU) from the General Service Unit (GSU), completed their induction course and were assimilated into the DCI family. (Henceforth they will be known as sleuths).
These and other training form part of the diverse courses that the Directorate has lined up for our detectives, in a bid to improve their capacity to respond to the ever-changing security demands of time.
These are some comments from Kenyans:
Paul Othoo – “This is the most serious, tactical, brilliant and sensitive department of police. You must strictly recruit from GSU. The moment you will attempt to bring other units it will be rendered useless. This unit has brought terror threats in Kenya to almost Zero. I salute these officers.”
Stephanoe Aalien – “Next recruitment utuite ama upost kwa group.. There are people beyond skill, discipline, syndicate personnels here in Kenya that can lift DCI and CID level up to such like Mossad, FBI etc. Esp youths who see reality as in the movies in real life.”
Jefferson Siombo – “The most important thing when it comes to training is to train county inspectorate officers eg Coastal counties. terrorism activities such as recruitment happen mitaani.”
Alex Kachu – “My simple and humble question is, why are you guys not acquiring the road side bomb detectors? We’re losing our men in a stupid way. These devices are available hizo trainings sioni zikisaidia bila equipment.“
Naftal Omanga – “Sleuth, next time you post, make sure you inbox me tumle marehemu Mbuzi together. Ulienda ile shule nilienda nikashindwa how to communicate effectively.”
Charlie Ray – “This is wonderful. Kenyans should know that hata kama uko upinzani ama serikalini, kazi nzuri za kuleta amani yafaa iwe fahari yetu sisi sote.”
Kenyan Powerhouse – “Those two young boys wamekonda sai,six months kazini watakua wamefura matumbo…DCI remember to investigate”
Stephen Moipei – “In my own way of understanding, I think the young officers who were celebrating their passing out day by displaying themselves as papapapapa, could be thoroughly trained and given a chance to join this team.”
Karim Mohamed – “Hope it’s no hipe for more disappearances of young Muslim men in guise of fighting terrorism being misinformed that has ruined Kenya’s image as a serious partner in combating terrorism, the leading victims of all the henious acts are Muslims themselves…”
