Raila leads ODM strategy meeting to recapture Kibra seat

ODM Leader Raila Odinga yesterday led a strategy meeting with all the party Mps and senators in a bid to recapture the Kibra seat which fell vacant after the demise of Hon. Ken Okoth on July 26th.

Kibra is divided into five wards, Lindi, Sarang’ombe, Woodley/Kenyatta Golfcourse, Laini Saba and Makina. In the meeting, the party adopted at least ten Mps per ward strategy starting this coming weekend. The Mps will camp in the wards, comb and drum up support for the ODM candidate Imran Okoth.

The meeting which was also attended by the party candidate brought together nearly all lawmakers elected on ODM ticket. To finance the campaign each lawmaker is expected to donate 50, 000 shillings in a fundraiser to be held today at the Marsh Park Hotel off Ng’ong Road.

Kibra residents will elect their new Mp on November 7th in a race shaping to be between Ken’s younger brother Imran Okoth and Jubilee’s MacDonald Mariga. In the meeting, the party also raised concerns over possible manipulation of IEBC voter register.

They claim that 10,000 new voters have been registered from the neighboring Dagoreti South and Langata constituencies to sway figures in favor of the Jubilee candidate, Mariga. The party resolved to write to the IEBC  through its legal team to be provided with the register which will be used in the polls for scrutiny.

The race is getting tougher by the day and on Monday Mariga received a major boost after a section of Nairobi MCAs led by Majority Leader Abdi Guyo endorsed him and pledged a door to door campaign. s
