Kakamega County police officers on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 gunned down five armed robbers along the busy Kakamega-Kisumu highway.
Reports indicate that the police officers trailed the notorious gang that has been terrorising the residents in the area before killing them on the spot after a long chase.
While confirming the incidence, the Kakamega South Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Chesire stated that the robbers engaged fire with the police who were forced to retaliate.
“The police challenged them to
surrender but instead the (robbers) fired at them. All robbers were armed,”
Chesire said.
The police managed to recover several items in the Toyota Belta that was used by the robbers, including; two pistols, a police uniform, several rounds of ammunition, several mobile phones, a radio device, and a bank cheque.

Chesire also warned the criminal gangs within the County that their days are numbered.
Robbery cases have been rampant within various counties that has caused great concerns among Kenyans in the recent months.
A recent report released by the Kenya National Bureau of
Statistics (KNBS) in 2020, titled Economic Survey revealed
that robbery cases within the country rose by an 8.6 percent margin during
the first quarter of 2020 as compared to the same period in 2019.
The report also indicated that Nairobi, Kiambu, Meru, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisii, Machakos, and Murang’a were among the counties where robbery cases had recorded a high figure.
