Corruption in KENHA stalls construction of footbridges for years

Despite Jubilee Administration’s major strides in doing road repairs, foot paths and expansion of road networks in Kenya, Kenya National Highway Authority is sleeping dead on the job. It has failed Kenyans by delays in construction of foot bridges along the busy Thika – Nairobi leading to more pedestrian deaths.

The process of constructing additional foot bridges have delayed for over two years. Additional footbridges are seriously needed since those erected by the Chinese are not enough to reduce pedestrian deaths by rogue motorists.

Contractors are sleeping on the job, some are yet to even complete the construction of the supporting structures when locals sadly continue to box themselves to understand why Kenya should always consider granting such contracts to the more efficient Chinese contractors.

It took only three years to build the busy six lane highway and its taking almost the same amount of time to put a foot bridge for safety measures. There are elements of corruption in the whole affair, some ministry officials say the matter is being investigated by agencies. There are  indications that the delay in these projects is because they are muddled in corruption.
