Meru Teacher breaks a boy’s hand before KCPE

A KCPE candidate from Muurugi Primary School in Meru County has lost the use of his dominant right hand after a teacher broke it.

The boy  will be forced to do all the papers using his left hand after he suffered the injury when a teacher from the school severely punished him alongside his classmates two weeks ago.

Education officials from the area have been avoiding to talk on the issue, requesting for more time to investigate and consult. Sources close to the boys mother revealed to Kenya Bulletin that some teachers paid the boy’s family a visit as efforts to dissuade the mother not pursue the matter.

The boy’s mother, Judith Igoki, said that her son told her that he sustained the injury when the teacher punished him with other students.

Concerns are that the boy should be added more time when taking his papers because he is slow with the left hand. Meru County Director of Education Milton Nzioka could not that but he said the interests of the boy will be protected.Candidates considered to have sat their examinations under difficult circumstances are handled on merit.
