Congolese man arrested at the JKIA for trading fake gold

Ledivin Mupanga, A Congolese national was this morning arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by DCI officers working jointly with officers from the Department of Immigration.

The 41 year old was captured on arrival from Ethiopia after a stop order was placed by Serious Crime Detective officers. Mupanga  is accused of obtaining Sh10 million early this year from a complainant. He promised to purchase gold for him but Mupanga disappeared after receiving the money.

He is legally held in police custody waiting to be arraigned in court wednesday as investigations continue.
In May, a Kenyan and a Bulgarian national alleged to be involved in a fake gold scam were charged of obtaining Sh3 million through false pretense.

Mohammed Akabar Rashi and Vikta Rosta pleaded not guilty to the charge before Senior Resident magistrate Caroline Nzibe at the Milimani Courts. They were released on a sh100,000 and sh 500,000 cash bail but Vikta was again ordered to remain in custody until the case is heard.
