Okoth’s Widow votes at the Old Kibera Primary School

Monica Okoth, the widow of the former Kibra MP Ken Okoth has voted in the ongoing by-election at the Old Kibera Primary polling station. Monica hit the headlines over a paternity row involving the late legislator’s family and Ann Thumbi, a nominated female MCA in Nairobi.

Monica disputed DNA results that confirmed that Ken Okoth sired Thumbi’s son. She claimed that she had different results. It later emerged that Thumbi’s son was Ken Okoth’s and she agreed to share her late husband’s property with the four year old boy.

During the campaign, Ann Thumbi showed support for Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga, Monica was not publicly involved but she must be supporting the candidature of her brother in law, ODM’s Imran Okoth.

Kibra residents are voting to replace Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer in July. The exercise opened at 6.00 am with a few stations reporting hitches before the start. Low turn out has been reported and attributed to possibility of the residents choosing to go to work first and vote later.
