ODM leader and Opposition chief Raila Odinga has announced that his party will hold grassroots elections early next year to “to inject new blood” in the party ahead of the 2022 polls.
The announcement was made after the Orange party revealed that it is on a serious revamping strategy and will conduct a marathon online registration of members.
The registration drive will be launched by the party leader on Tuesday next week as he formally inaugurates the new ODM head quarters in Lavington.
Rails was speaking at a consultative meeting with ODM Nairobi MCAs where he stated that the party’s grassroots polls are geared towards making strengthening ODM party.
He said that they are doing registrations digitally to encourage as many people as possible to join the party.
He also added that the polls will be free, fair and transparent and with an aim of injecting new blood into the party leadership right from the village level to the top.
On BBI, the ODM leader said the Building Bridges Initiative will heal the nation and push for meaningful changes on the law.
He reminded the MCAs that while passing the current constitution, it was agreed that it was 100% perfect.
Raila said the BBI report will soon be out and will propose a way forward on how to solve the problems Kenyans are facing.
Once released, he said, the recommendations of the BBI report will be subjected to public participation.
He urged Nairobi county assembly Minority leader David Mberia to ensure equal representation of party and coalition members in assembly committees to promote easiness among the MCAs.
