Matiangi’s chopper cuts short West Pokot trip over bad weather

A chopper carrying Interior Secretary Fred Matiangi has his Devolution counterpart, Eugene Wamalwa was forced to land at the Eldoret Airport over bad weather.

Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambei was also in the company of the minister s who were header to Kapenguria in West Pokot County where the heavy pounding rains and landslides  have claimed over 50 lives.

The CS said that they left Nairobi at 8:30am but had to heed to advisory measures from experts and pilots.

The team will embark on the their journey to West Pokot once the weather conditions improve to meet the local leaders and find ways of meting the problems faced by the victims and residents of the county.

Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa said that the government through his docket had dispatched relief food, medication and clothing’s to the victims of the landslides.

He also added that the government is working round the clock to ensure safety and well beings of the affected families and all residents of West Pokot and other areas affected by the on going rains.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkom in the company of politicians Aaron Cheruyot and MacDonald Mariga among others visited the area on Sunday where Murkomen urged resident to move to safer grounds.

Matiangi urged the security security officers to ensure maximum safety and evacuate the families still living in earmarked locations to safer grounds.
