Jevanjee Resident To Sue Sonko Over Planned Evictions

Jevanjee residents who are facing eviction to pave way for Nairobi Urban Renewal Project have moved to court to stop Mike Sonko from evicting them until they reach a reciprocal agreement.

JevaQuaters Association secretary Leonard Obonyo said that the county has up to date not engaged them conclusively for the them to move yet they have received a 30 day  notice.

‘How do you give somebody a notice in the middle of talks ,this is unacceptable and we shall not allow it..governor Sonko must know that we also have our rights,’’ he said.

According Obonyo they were to agree on mode of compensation and how they will secure their house in return and all this has been given a wide berth by the county government.

‘They are talking about issuing  Ksh. 600,000, whom did they consult? I mean this is unacceptable and everybody saw what happened in Pangani.’’ Obonyo stated.

More than 80 families were ordered to vacate the Jevabjee Estate before December 15th. Sonko-led county bulldozers and goons are ready to demolish and execute an organized night looting.
