Prison warders arrested smuggling foreigners to Nairobi

Police detectives arrested three prison warders on Thursday for helping eight Somali nationals to move from Garissa to Nairobi.

The rogue warders mission was however thwarted when the government vehicle which was  intercepted at Mutwangombe along Garissa- Nairobi highway.

The vehicle was ferrying prison officers attending an annual Prison Sports Competition in Nairobi when six ‘young offenders’ and two adults with no single identification documents were found on board.

Investigations into the incident recovered Sh18,000 from one of the officers. The money is suspected to have been given out by the foreigners as bribe in order board the vehicle.

Constable Ali Hassan, Corporal Ibrahim Abdow and Seargent Simon Kyalo Mwendwa spent the night in police custody waiting to be arraigned in court.

Last year, a similar incident was reported when officers from the disbanded Flying Squad Unit nabbed another police officer who was found smuggling foreigners into the country.

The officers was arrested toegether with the five somalis he was smuggling.

The detectives who were acting on a tip off intercepted the vehicle which transporting the foreigners ate the Pumwani roundabout.
