Eliud Kipchoge nominated for Laureus award alongside Messi and Hamilton

World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards in the category of Sportsman of the Year.

He is nominated alongside Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, Lionel Messi, Rafael Nadal and Tiger Woods.

The Kenyan marathoner became the first athlete to run a marathon in under two hours by clocking 1hr 59mins 40secs, in Vienna, last year.

His nomination to the Laureus World Sports Awards comes barely a month after he won the World Athletics Athlete late last year.

The award has many categories including the Sportswoman of the year, the team of the year, the breakthrough of the year, the comeback of the year and sportsperson of the year with a disability.

The Laureus is a global entity that celebrates excellence in sports and uses the power of sport to change lives of children and the youth.

This year’s edition marks the 20th Anniversary of Laureus World Sports Awards. The event will be held in Berlin, Germany in February 17.
