Coast Regional Police Commander Rashid Yakub has filed an application seeking to withdraw an assault case against Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. The prosecution said that the complainant is withdrawing the case because he no longer has interest in it.

Senior Resident Magistrate Frederick Nyakundi will on wednesday give a ruling on the matter.

Sonko failed to appear in court on December 18 citing health reasons through his lawyer but appeared Tuesday (21) morning to take on assault charges.

The Governor who is facing corruption rcharges was accused of assaulting Mr Yakub during his dramatic arrest in Voi  last year. He was also expected to be charged with two other counts which include disruption of peace and resisting arrest.

Yakub had accused Sonko of kicking him on the thigh and insulting other police officers during the  arrest. Four witnesses including Yakub and three other police officers, had been lined up to testify in the case.
