The following is a distress call from a Spire Bank operations manager explaining an alleged scheme to rob him off his car by DCI detectives based in Isinya.
”My name is Symon Maina Gitari of ID number 27004518. On 25th Sept 2019, I received a call from Pascal Nyange Mwangeti on 0724053308 who claimed to be a police officer from DCI Isinya. He said he wanted us to talk about a car that has an issue.
Having nothing to hide I told him am available but am in the office so if he can come to the office we will talk. He told me he can see where I am so I asked him to come.
I work at Upper Hill Mwalimu towers as an Operations Manager at Spire bank. later in the day, he came and I directed him to our security office where he and another police office By the name Karisa of phone number 0720741561 met with our head of security. I later joined them in the office.
They told me that my car KBK 433U was transferred fraudulently. The previous owner of the car is Mr Anthony Njue. The police claimed that the immediate previous owner by the name Nathaniel was conned by a person called Mwangi in 2016.
Apparently, Nathaniel wanted to upgrade from the Premio KBK 433U to a Prado so they were doing a trade-in with Mwangi. Nathaniel allegedly gave out Premio KBK433U documents and the car. He was given a Prado with no documents allegedly. Later he realised the Prado was from car hire and by that time Mwangi had allegedly gone with the Premio KBK433U. The car hire company later came for their Prado.
I bought the car (kbk433u) on 24th May 2018 at a car yard in Donholm myself. I did my due diligence. I did an NTSA search, Compared the chassis number on the car with the one on the logbook and confirmed the validity of the logbook.
The car yard then transferred the car to me and I made a cash deposit to KCB bank Donholm and took the car. I have all these documentations including the original logbook.
Pascal the police officer asked me to take them to where the car was. at the moment the car was at Buruburu near Naivas undergoing body works and paint spraying.
I took them to where the car was. We went with him and the other police officer and two other men who didn’t identify themselves. on getting to buruburu they said they have to take the car to Isinya police station.
I asked them whether they have anything to show like a court order or a warrant of arrest and they didn’t have any. They asked me to understand what the immediate previous owner(Nathaniel) has been going through since 2016 after he was allegedly conned.
I then insisted that we had to first register an OB at Buruburu police station. The OB number is 59/25/09/19 at 1720hrs.
I then requested a friend of mine by the name Silas to accompany me to Isinya to ensure that is where they are taking the vehicle and I wrote a statement there.
Pascal the police officer assured me that they are going to resolve the issue and I will get back my car as soon as possible. He also told me not to contact the people who sold the vehicle to me which I have not done.
Every time I call him he tells they are yet to arrest the main Culprit, Mwangi and they have challenges of logistics and how to get to the so-called Mwangi. He also told me not to go to court as he knows how to frustrate people.
Its been a month now and I feel like I am being conned by our very own police officers who are supposed to be taking care of us!!!!! they are holding my car with no grounds and making me not to follow up by buying time and frustrating me.
They have never asked for the papers I have to show am the owner for heaven’s sake!! nothing at all.
I would thus request this office to intervene and have my car returned to me and investigate in details this matter.”
