A. Jiwa Shamji Limited Exposed

A. Jiwa Shamji Limited (AJS) is a “family-owned” organization that is headquartered in Kisii, Kenya, and has branches all over the country in Nairobi, Kericho, and Sotik.

The company has been irregularly winning tenders at Kisii county and performing shoddy road maintenance jobs. Residents say that in the month of August 2019, Amin Jiwa was awarded a contract to repair the Kisii Prisons road that was filled with potholes. “He just filled the potholes and that was the end of the story. The road lasted barely two months and there were potholes all over the road.” a concerned resident told the Kenyanbulletin.

Even with the bad track record, the Kisii county last week awarded AJS a contract to repair the same road, “they have filled the potholes with some murram and taken off.”

AJS boasts of being one of the largest civil engineering construction companies in Western Kenya and undertaking large road construction projects while leaving behind a trail of bad roads and misused tax money.

Kisii Town’s rapid development in the last two decades has been partly spurred by the construction of several high-rise buildings by the likes of A Jiwa Shamji, with proceeds from these corruption deals, it is a no brainer.

Kisii Governor James Ongwae recently begun a process to declare Kisii town a municipality with Kisii county assembly approving the names of eight nominees to the Municipal Board. Members of the board include Alfred Nyamwancha, Jamaldin Shamji, Elizabeth Nyabonyi, Pius Abuki, Albert Otungu, Judson Nyambane, Philip Motonu and Linet Bosire.
