A police Inspector shot dead by his boys in Nairobi’s Kawangware slums

A senior police officer of an Inspector rank was last night shot dead by special police investigators (spiv) after he failed to introduce himself. Spiv is a special unit of officers who don civilian clothes to stay undercover. IP Benson Ndeje was also in civilian when the 0245hrs incident occurred in Kawangware Coast Area.

Details remain unclear why there would be operations in the area without the knowledge or coordination of the unit and an officer of IP Ndeje’s ranking.

The report that was made by officers on patrol within the area of the occurrence indicate that one drunk man believed to be armed had a commotion with boda boda operators and threatened to shoot at them. It is then that the operators alerted the officers who were on patrol. The officers in their response challenged Mr Ndeje to surrender but instead he responded with shots injuring one officer, Kenneth Kimathi on his left wrist arm.

The officers shot at him several times and on examination they found that he was a police officer of Riruta Police Station. he was armed with Ceska pistol F6974. He was rushed to Nairobi Women’s Hospital in Adams Arcade but was pronounced dead on arrival and his body moved to Chiromo Morgue. The injured officer is still receiving treatment at Nairobi Women’s Hospital.
