A woman arrested in Pumwani Maternity for attempted baby theft

A woman was on Saturday arrested at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital for allegedly trying to swap a dead bay with alive one.
Irene Syombua has been linked a series of theft of newborns at the facility notorious for the crime. Police searched her car and discovered the body of a newborn wrapped in a sack. Detectives argue that Syombua had visited the facility for a possible swap.
She will be arraigned and charged in court on Monday. This is the latest incident to be reported in the hospital that is notorious for baby theft.
In November, another woman was arrested for stealing a newborn baby and carried in the back pack while his mother was processing her discharge papers.
Another suspect, a nurse at the hospital was also arrested for trying to steal her friend’s baby. Sheila Alouch is childless nurse living in Fedha estate but attempted to steal Phoebe Achieng who lives in Mukuru slums.
The hospital revealed that Adhiambo took Phoebe to hospital when she was due and registered her under her names and took off.
