Garissa Township MP and National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale on Monday, April 13, condemned his Senate counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen after he claimed that Parliament was ‘dead’.
In a long thread on his Twitter page, Duale asked Murkomen to concentrate more on the Senate rather than the National Assembly.
“As the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly and in accordance with Article 108 of the Constitution, I have an obligation to defend the National Assembly from those who want to injure its reputation and independence. Brother keep your mind and speak for the Senate,” Duale begun.
He added that the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary were independent offices that complement each other.
“Take heart. I have nothing personal I’m just defending the institution that I represent and I am your senior in politics,” Duale addressed Murkomen.
In terms of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, Duale stated that the National Assembly would create synergies when there was a need to.
“That is what we were elected to do. To represent, legislate and oversee,” Duale stated.
The National Assembly’s Majority Leader was responding to Murkomen’s remark, in which he claimed that Parliament is dead.
“It’s an extension of the Executive and the opposition is causing stampede trying to be more government than the government itself,” Murkomen stated.
Further, he complained that every time he raised issues of public interest, the media was not objective in its reporting.
“Every time I raised issues like money to counties, take over of Nairobi County, laws being passed and signed against the Constitution, the formation of Senate Covid-19 Committee etc, the media have always reduced my efforts to Tanga Tanga or Rutoman or anti-Uhuru,” Murkomen stated.
“I have indefatigably and consistently defended the independence of Parliament since I joined in 2013, both privately within Jubilee circles and publicity in and out of the chambers of Parliament. I have a firm testimony,” he concluded.
