Akiba Estate community gate vandalized by rogue NMS goons

NMS Director of Roads, Transport and Public Works, Engineer Michael Ochieng

Residents of Akiba Estate in Lang’ata, Nairobi County, have expressed their frustration after rogue goons sent from the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) illegally demolished two of their community security gates.

Prior to the vandalizing on Tuesday night, the NMS Director of Roads, Transport and Public Works, Engineer Michael Ochieng had written to the Chairman of Akiba Estate Residents Association warning of the impending demolition.

In the latter dated 3rd December 2021, NMS gave the residents a seven-day deadline to get rid of the gate next to residential units belonging to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

“We have received numerous complaints regarding the erection and existence of illegal gates managed by yourselves.

This is an illegal activity and this serves as a last warning to you and your committee.

We hereby give you seven days from the day you receive this letter to have the gate removed, failure to which the NMS shall move in and remove the same at your own cost,” it reads in part.

As kenyanbulletin news desk later came to understand, on that material day, not only were the main gates were removed but also a smaller passage which serves as a secure foot path.

We heavily condemn this unacceptable incident that directly undermines the level of security in the area and hope that relevant bodies will move in and protect the helpless Wananchi of Akiba Estate.
