2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates can now breathe a sigh of relief after Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said all students would get a placement for higher education.
The Education CS affirmed that all candidates who sat their 2020 exams will have the ability to progress to other levels under the Government’s plan of zero wastage and 100 per cent transition.
Speaking during the release of the 2020 exam results, Magoha said that the Ministry has created opportunities for academic progression for all 747,161 candidates who sat the exam.
“All institutions have disclosed their capacities of enrollment ahead of the selection exercise of the candidates, which I have instructed to start immediately,” he said.

Magoha further said that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is engaging with higher education regulatory bodies- Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) to ensure all learning institutions are prepared to enrol the candidate.
“I have directed KUCCPS to ensure proper public mobilization and communication campaigns are put in place to ensure all interested candidates apply to colleges and TVET institutions of their choice,” he added.
Explaining further, the CS said that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government has spent enormous resources to expand the TVET sector.
“The number of TTI’s in each constituency has grown from 52 in 2013 to 233 in 2021. Out of the 233, 52 are fully operational, 140 have been built, equipped, staffed and operationalized (four of them catering for TVET SNE candidates) and 41 are under construction,” Magoha added.
On preparation for the 2021 KCPE and KCSE examinations, the Education CS said the exams would be held in March 2022 while the 2022 exams would be administered in December of the same year.
The pioneers of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) Grade 6 candidates will sit their summative exams in December 2022.
“We therefore about to come face to face with historic examinations season next year, which means that we must start preparing for the five examinations immediately,” he said.
In conclusion, Magoha noted that schools that opened Monday are expected to close on July 10th 2021 and proceed on a week holiday after which all classes including grade 5 learners and form 1 class will start the first term of the 2021 academic year on July 26th.
