The Kenyan movie world has a reason to smile after another film has been picked to premiere on the global streaming platform, Netflix.
’40 Sticks’, a 95-minute Kenyan thriller set in Nairobi will debut on Friday November 20, 2020.
The film will become the third local film to feature on Netflix after The Poacher, Sincerely Daisy and Disconnect; which were received well.
The development means that the Kenyan film industry is beginning to gain the recognition.
The ’40 Sticks’ is about a group of death row prisoners trapped in a crashed prison bus struggling to remain alive with to a mysterious killer lying low in the shadows.
The thriller was shot in dive different locations in Nairobi for two weeks in early 2019.
It was produced by SensePlay in partnership with Film Studios Kenya, Bingi Media and Ogopa Inc.
The fictional story was created by Frank G. Maina, written by Voline Ogutu directed by Victor Gatonye and Executive Produced by Fakii Liwali.
’40 sticks’ has been officially rated 16 by Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).
It features some of the country’s seasoned actors as Robert Ageng’o, Cajetan Boy, Mwaura Bilal, and Arabron Nyyneque, Xavier Ywaya, Shiviske Shiviski and Andrew Kamau.
The movie is in Sheng, and Victor Gatonye who has directed other films as Sunrise, Kina, Dreamchild among others said the language will enable Kenyans to see it through many eyes.
