Yesterday, Blogger Robert Alai was charged and released by a Kibera court for assaulting gospel singer Alex Apoko, alias Ringtone.
Alai denied any wrongdoing before senior principal magistrate Phillip Mutua and was granted a Sh1 million bond or Sh300,000 bail with a surety of the same amount.
Blogger Alai was charged with causing grievous harm to Ringtone Apoko on July 23 on Cotton Road in Kilimani, Nairobi. He was also charged with damaging Apoko’s car windows wilfully and unlawfully. The charge sheet says the widow pane of Ringtone’s Range Rover that was destroyed costs about Sh416,000. At the same time, the court barred Alai from publishing any post related to the case either directly or through proxies.
“Traffic lights were showing red so I had to stop and wait and in front of me was a Subaru car. When the lights showed green, the Subaru car did not move,” Ringtone told police, adding that several cars behind him started hooting.
The complainant told police Alai later attacked him. He says Alai came out of his car and using a Maasai rungu hit the driver’s side several times and hit him. He then came out of his car asked him what the problem was.
Ringtone was then rescued by onlookers and the matter was reported to the police. The case will be mentioned on August 23.
