Susan Wambui Maina, the mother of 23-year-old Loise Wanjiku, who allegedly jumped from the second floor of an apartment at Dagoretti Corner, Nairobi has said that she wants justice for her daughter.
Wanjiku died on January 31, 2023.
On Wednesday, March 15, the mother revealed that the suicide angle was an account by her daughter’s roommate – claims which she disputed.
A post-mortem conducted on Wanjiku showed that she died due to internal bleeding in the stomach. In addition, the autopsy revealed that she did not have two teeth, did not have broken bones, but also depicted injuries that were a result of fighting.
While detailing the events of the fateful day, the mother noted that on January 31, 2023, she was called by her daughter’s roommate at 2:00 am to inform her that she had jumped from the apartment.
“She called me at 2:00 am to tell me that Loise fell from the second floor and they were in an ambulance heading to Kenyatta National Hospital.
Frantic about the matter, the mother rushed from Nyandarua to Nairobi the following day to visit her daughter in the hospital.
“The doctors performed a CT scan on her body and revealed that she had internal bleeding. She was sent to theatre for further examination but did not make it,” she noted.
Aggrieved and weakened by the incident, the mother sent a relative to file a report at Riruta Police Station.
Wambui raised suspicions of her 23-year-old daughter’s demise after Wanjiku’s phone and Identity Card conspicuously went missing.
“I tried to call her (daughter’s roommate) to ask for Loise’s phone and ID and she told me that she would look for it. Until then, she has since blocked my number,” she pointed out.
The mother expressed her hopes in her daughter – who was studying interior design at a Nairobi-based college. She intimated the tough times she endured for raising her school fees for education.
The deceased also left behind a daughter aged one year and eight months- who is under Wambui’s care.
“According to me my daughter who was doing interior design did not kill herself, my daughter had a phone, which disappeared after her death.
“Maybe there is much truth in that phone, all I’m asking is the said roommate to hand over her phone. I need justice for my daughter,” she stated.
