An autopsy has revealed that Brian Olunga, the aide to Kimilili politician Brian Khaemba who was allegedly shot by Kimilili MP-elect Didmus Barasa last week, died of a bullet which struck the right side of his head.

According to Western region pathologist Dr DM Muchana, Olunga died of profuse bleeding when the bullet got stuck in his head. Barasa is in custody after he surrendered and was arraigned in court on Monday after which the court allowed police to hold him for 10 days to allow investigations.

Olunga’s family wants the police to speed up their investigations.

Speaking in Samitsi village in Malava, Kakamega County, the family of the late Olunga, who was a bodyguard to MP aspirant Brian Khaemba, has urged the authorities to leave no stone unturned even as they look into the killing.

Olunga’s father, Mzee Tobias Olunga, described his late son as a hardworking young man.

Kimilili Member of Parliament elect Mr. Didmus Barasa is in police custody in connection with the shooting, although he has distanced himself from allegations that he had knowingly opened fire killing Olunga.

Barasa maintains that the events of that day remain blurry even to him.

According to the legislator, multiple people also had weapons on the scene on the material day – including the police – all of whom he now wants to surrender their firearms so that they can be subjected to forensic analysis.
