Autopsy reveals Tecra Muigai’s cause of death

Keroche heiress Tecra Muigai’s autopsy results have revealed that she succumbed to injuries sustained on the left side of her head.

Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor led the team conducting the autopsy on Tuesday, May 12 at Nairobi’s Lee Funeral Home.

Tecra’s boyfriend, Omar Lali, who is still detained, had on May 4, 2020, told detectives that she had fallen down a flight of stairs at a private home in Shela, Lamu, where the two were living together.

Experts who were present during the autopsy are expected to meet doctors who attended to Tecra from the Nairobi Hospital, where she had been admitted before she died.

They are expected to study the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans that had been captured at the hospital.

Further, toxicology tests from blood and urine samples will also be done to establish if there was a presence of alcohol or drugs before she fell down the stairs.

Tecra, who was the last-born daughter of Joseph Karanja (Chairman, Keroche Breweries) and Tabitha Karanja (CEO, Keroche Breweries) is expected to be buried in a private burial ceremony in Naivasha.

“The Family of Tecra wishes to thank friends from far and wide for the deep outpouring of heartfelt condolences. Tecra’s interment will be held at a private family ceremony,” read part of the obituary in a media advert.

Until her death, Tecra was the strategy and innovation director at Keroche Breweries.

“The Board of Directors and management of Keroche Breweries is deeply saddened to inform that Tecra Muigai Karanja passed away,” read the statement in part.

The family mourned her as a brilliant, passionate and energetic person who was the source of important innovations that enriched the company’s product range including new brands.
