Drunk Murang’a police officer fired a gun inside bar after being the owner denied him free beer.
Several patrons of a bar at Kanyenyaini Trading Centre in Kangema, Murang’a county were left reeling in shock after a police officer cocked his gun inside the bar.
The officer who has since been identified as Patrick Kiptoo Bett attached to a local bank had left his work station and visited Jacoway Bar to quench his thirst on Friday, January 29.
A police report filed at Kanyenyaini police station by the bar owner Hannah Njeri showed that the officer was accompanied by his colleague Naomi Wandia, both dressed in full jungle uniform.
According to Njeri, Bett who was apparently looking drunk already, stormed the pub and demanded a free cup of keg beer but she turned him away something which annoyed him.
The angry officer who was armed with G3 rifle threatened to kill if he was not going to be served his favourite drink.
Sensing danger, the proprietor quickly locked herself in the counter fearing the man of the uniform could make good his threat to shoot her dead.
Not willing to give up, the irate officer raised his gun and fired into the air once before dashing away back to his work station.
Senior police officers later on visited the scene but found Bett had left, they then followed him to the bank where he was disarmed and apprehended.
He was taken to Kanyenyaini police station before being transferred to Kangema police station pending investigation.
Last month, an administration officer fired 7 bullets in the head of a bar owner who had gone to demand a beer debt from the officer in Turkana.
