Postmortem results on the slained Somali-American businessman Bashir Mohamed Mohamud has revealed strangulation and torture as cause of death.
The autopsy report, which was released today by his family lawyers, also revealed that he sustained a ligature.
He reportedly had burns on his body, trauma on the head consistent with being hit by a blunt object, and his toenails were also plucked out.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation(DCI) had transported the body of the Somali-American businessman Bashir Mohamud, to Nairobi ahead of a planned post-mortem.
The body was moved to Umash Funeral Home, Nairobi, for post-mortem by chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor and two other pathologists seconded by the family and their lawyer.
Bashir’s body was on Saturday identified by his family at the Kerugoya Level Five Hospital mortuary where it had been booked as an unidentified after it was discovered on the banks of River Nyamindi, Kirinyaga County on May 16.
According to Kirinyaga County Police commander Leah Kithei, the body was discovered by a resident from Mirera in Murinduko ward, Mwea.
“The case was then reported to police in Nairobi County and the unidentified body had been at the morgue for six days,” Kithei said.
She said the body was discovered with no clothes but with visible head injuries.
Family lawyer Charles Madowo said the US government had seconded an FBI agent to partner with DCI in the ongoing probe to unravel how the contractor was abducted and killed.
The lawyers now request the office of the DPP to institute an inquest probe to determine the circumstances of his death
