The hope that swept through Kisii County in 2022 has officially soured into a regime of terror and raw intimidation. Governor Simba Arati has traded his “People’s Champion” mantle for the iron fist of a local dictator who views public servants as disposable slaves.
From the holding cells of Nyanchwa Police Station to the gates of Gusii Stadium, the rot in the county executive is now stinking for all to see. Investigation reveals a leadership that is more concerned with guarding petty political territory than delivering a single project to the taxpayers.
Arati treats public property like his bedroom
The true measure of a man is how he reacts when he loses the spotlight, and Simba Arati failed this test spectacularly last Thursday. Five enforcement officers were hauled to Nyanchwa Police Station for the “crime” of being unable to stop a massive wave of thousands of citizens.
These people were not summoned by a decree but arrived spontaneously to welcome Dr. Fred Okengo Matiangi. Arati seems to believe that Gusii Stadium is part of his private inheritance rather than a public facility built with common resources. By punishing these officers for a surge of people they could never control, the governor is simply lashing out because he can no longer command the crowds that once followed him.
The nine officers Arati threw to the wolves
The most explosive evidence of the governor’s failed leadership is the recent sacrifice of nine enforcement officers who dared to touch a “holy relative.” These officers were arrested not for corruption but for having the balls to enforce the law against an individual building without an approved plan. Because the suspect shares blood with the governor, Arati reportedly ordered his own staff to be locked up at the Kisii Prison.
We must name the men Arati is trying to bury in the system. They are Wilson Mogaka and Evans Aramba, along with Jared Mogaka and Ben Ogera. The list of the persecuted includes Victor Arasa and Nelson Magati, as well as Jesper Aberi, Joseph Maobe, and Robert Mogere. These men are currently rotting in prison for simply performing their duties. This is the definition of selective justice, where the law is a whip for the poor and a shield for the governor’s kin.
The Nyanchwa connection and the culture of fear
There is a sinister reason why the governor keeps sending his victims to record statements at Nyanchwa Police Station specifically. This choice of venue, combined with the constant threat of summary dismissal, has turned the Kisii County civil service into a graveyard of morale.
Public servants now operate under a cloud of fear where doing the right thing leads to a jail cell and following the law leads to a disciplinary letter. Leadership is about humility and accountability, but Arati has chosen to govern through threats and the abuse of police power to protect his crumbling image.
The Clueless Kingpin (Omonogeri): A legacy of micromanagement and failure
While Dr. Matiangi once lobbied for millions to improve Gusii Stadium and bring pride to the region, the current occupant of the office is busy micromanaging gate keys and arresting his own guards. The voters of Kisii are finally waking up to the fact that they chose a leader who is both clueless and dangerously incompetent.
Arati is no longer fighting for the people; he is fighting for his own ego while the country chokes on impunity. The “panya” we chose in 2022 has finally shown its teeth, and the people of Kisii are ready to bite back.
