The family of veteran politician and billionaire Nginyo Kariuki are embroiled in an ugly tussle over his rich estate running into multiple billions of shillings.
The family war pitches Nginyo’s only son James Kariuki and daughter Jane Wambui who are currently fighting tooth and nail to gain the lion’s share in the property row.
The lawmaker passed away on February 24, 2020 leaving behind a will to his wife Margaret Wangari the mother to his only two children, James Kariuki and Jane Wambui.
The family is reported to have put a united and spirited fight in pushing away two other women who wanted to claim a portion of the politician’s wealth.
His eldest son Kariuki would later move to court seeking the control of the estate over claims that the mother and other sibling organized the transfer of Ksh. 71 Million into their accounts without his consent.
He also demanded that all the monies from their rental homes be save in their late father’s account, as part of wealth set to be split among them.
Her sister Wambui is however reported to have filed another suit to counter her brother, accusing him of plotting to take control of her late father’s vast wealth.
Among the properties Kariuki is accused of planning to hijack includes, the late TNA founder’s bank accounts, rents, homes, parcels of land, a company, high-end cars and multi-million government bonds.
“Since February 2008, the applicant (James) was removed as a signatory to all company accounts by the deceased as noted in the bank mandate letter.
“And there is no property registered in the name of Lawrence Nginyo Kariuki where rent is not being paid,” Wambui said, adding that all the properties are well maintained and there is no risk of disrepair or wastage as alleged by James.
