The 17.5M extortion charge against blogger Cyprian Nyakundi dismissed by High Court.
High Court found that the DCI entrapped Nyakundi and holds that evidence obtained illegally by entrapment is inadmissible.
The High court ruled today that DCI entrapped Nyakundi in the 17.5M charge relating to Victoria Commercial Bank.

Cyprian Nyakundi was permanently banned from Twitter after seeing his verified account with more than 1.3million followers suspended.
He has since joined a Kenyan based Social media platform, Gscroll, that boasts of being the home of free speech.
In January last year, DCI nabbed blogger Cyprian Nyakundi and Businessman Emmanuel Ong’era allegedly with Ksh 1million they had received from a senior holder at embattled Victoria Commercial Bank.
On January 24, 2020, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arreigned blogger Cyprian Nyakundi and then co-accused Businessman over alleged Sh17.5 million extortion attempt.
“The suspects will appear before court on 24th January, 2020 to face charges of extortion contrary to section 300 (1) of the Penal Code,” tweeted the DCI that after they had entrapped the blogger.
The money was alleged to be a down payment for some Sh17.5 million they earlier demanded, as a precondition for pulling down libelous posts appearing on a website owned by the suspects.
The money recovered was used as an exhibit in court.
In what the High Court has now thrown out as a false case of extortion against blogger Cyprian Nyakundi and Businessman Emmanuel Ong’era, the DCI is said to have arrested the blogger just days after he was released on free bond over his COVID-19 posts.
Last month, blogger Cyprian Nyakundi had blasted DCI for refusing to return his Apple gadgets they have been illegal detaining for more than three years.
