Arrogant and bully Standard Group editor in chief Ochieng Rapuro has caused another blow to the company.
This is after one of the luminaries at the group Roselyn Ndisi Obala resigned on the eve of New Year.
She quit the company after Rapuro and his group plotted to frustrate her efforts to work freely. She had been demoted from Group Political Editor to the less glamorous City desk editor.
Rapuro in dholuo means digging and many feel he is out to dig the staff for perceived stand.
Obala is a seasoned political reporter who has gained experience in the field cultivating all manner of sources to enable her command the industry. The Maseno University alumni who also hold a masters degree from the UoN, resigned from the company in an email to the human resource department saying she was moving to green pastures.
Sources said she is headed for Nation Media Group which is a competitor of her now former employer.
She will join the NTV desk as organizing and planning editor. She has worked for her former employer for 15 years rising from a correspondent to political editor.
She fell out with Rapuro who abused her in a meeting of senior editors in the office accusing her of “showing off her legs in the beaches” instead of working. This was in regard to a meeting by editors in Mombasa to discuss industry issues.
He then accused her of conflict of interest over a radio show she has been attending for more than a year now. She frequently appeared on Ramogi Radio for a morning talk show.
This caused a huge argument on why he asked her of the issue now when she had been attending the show for a year.
“She was his next target. He has targeted and pushed out almost 30 people now leaving the company a shell,” said an insider.
A senior manager at the legal department identified as only Chris Waithaka also resigned last week after he fell out with some of the managers there leading a bloody onslaught on staff members. This was after he refused to ratify some of the issues there which he said may haunt his family.
Other sources said the lame duck HR department has launched investigations into Rapuro remarks and asked for statements from those who were in attendance. This forced Rapuro to take off for an abrupt leave.
Three other women have also said Rapuro used bad language on them after referring their show as that of slay queens. They are ready to give their statements too.
The staff feel Rapuro is not good for business ahead of a political year and that he has personal and selfish interests he is serving.
Among those who have left the company out of his pressure or pushed out include Kagure Gacheche, David Odongo, David Ochami, Rawlings Otieno, Wilfred Ayaga, Moses Njagi, Protus Onyango and Moses Michira among others. Several drivers and other support staff have also quit or been pushed out in the name of cleaning the place.
They are all now doing better than they were at the now struggling company which is being looted by managers. George Orido came back on his new terms.
Rapuro brags he will sack more before he is sacked.
