If you find yourself with some incriminating information against a powerful baron, reaching out to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) might not be the safest bet.
This is according to self-proclaimed city activist Boniface Mwangi who has now fired shots at DCI boss George Kinoti for failing to protect informants who reach out to the agency through their “Fichua” platform.
Addressing Kinoti during a Twitter rant on Thursday, 2 December 2021, Mwangi alleged that the DCI is notorious for collecting confidential information shared by witnesses and victims and then leaking it to powerful accused persons.
Sharing his own example, Mwangi revealed how last month, he walked into the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road and handed over top-secret details to help in investigations regarding a sensitive matter.
But to his surprise, just a few days after the successful meeting with Kinoti, he received a phone call from individuals representing the suspect.
“This week l learnt how informants, witnesses and victims against powerful people get murdered,” he wrote on his Twitter page.
“I walked into DCI HQ and handed over confidential information to help in their investigations and within hours l received a phone call from the suspect’s people,” he added.
Apart from selling him out to his adversaries, Mwangi also says that investigations on the matter have been suspiciously sluggish as the case keeps being bounced from one detective to the next.
“When we met with Kinoti over a month ago, he handed over the investigations to the Director of Operations Gicheru, who handed me over to Bett, who handed me over to Kioko who handed me over to Omondi,” he explained.
Mwangi has warned to take his own action if the agency does not act against the suspect by the end of this week.
In a message to Kinoti, he threatened to share all the damning evidence and expose a racket within the agency responsible for protecting murders.
“My lawyers Martha Karua, Mbugua Mureithi have copies of all the information and evidence shared. Names, phone numbers, and even images,” he wrote.
The agency is yet to respond to Mwangi’s claims.
