Boy 15 killed, three arrested in Mombasa

Police in Mombasa have shot and killed a 15-year-old boy who sat for his KCPE last year. He alleged to belong to an armed criminal together with his friends. He was armed and terrorising residents of Mina Love area.

Three other minors including a class six pupil, were arrested their accomplice was shot, Six others fled. Detectives said that Reagan Rashid was shot dead at around 6pm on Friday, far from his home in Kisauni.

Rashid did not surrender, instead he advanced towards the detectives wielding his machete. That is when he was on the chest and died on the spot.

His family members who thronged Kisauni police station dismissed claims that Rashid was a criminal and demanded immediate release of the three others. Another supect was killed in Bamburi on Thursday.

Kisauni police boss Julius Kiragu tsaid that the detectives got a tip-off from the locals that there was a group of suspected criminal gangs armed with machetes terrorising members of the public. Their hide outs were stormed. The suspect who was shot dead attempted to challenge the police.

Human rights groups in Mombasa have condemned the killings and called on the Independent Police Oversight Authority to investigate the killings. Haki Africa Boss Hussein Khalid claimed that the police have resorted to killing supects instead of investigating and charging in court.
