If you look at the then P Unit band trading on genge as the genre, the group was comprised of talented guys. Frasha had some peculiar thing, he stood bigger than the rest and I think it went into his head. ‘King of low’ he would call himself, not like Mejja who over rides Kid Kora and Madtrax in every track but still stays humble. It’s a character am not judging.
P Unit churned out hits, from when they pioneered with ‘Sio lazima tu do’ featuring Nonini, Frasha was always naughty in his verses, Buganya was good with verses and hooks, he had the ability to do an extra thing not like Frasha and Bon’eye. Talking Bon’eye, I think he cashed mean cheques if pay was based on how talented one was.
I find it that in P-U nit, Buganya carried the legacy of genge as a subgenre of rap. He had very good and flowing verses, his hooks were good and they neatly pieced verses of his fellows together. Who does that? Buganya, even where they drop verses alone, am sure he sent Frasha back to his rhyme book. His verse on gentleman was the best, his hook with Mbosso is catchy, his verse with Kristoff, Prezz and Magix Enga is dope. He is the only guy I know who has raced with Prezzo in a collaboration and he did it well. Prezzo is crazy with collabos, we all know what he did in chapaa and Banjuka remixes.
Buganya has demonstrated his eager to advance group’s and his personal ambitions as a singer. He stands out in all projects he is involved with, solo or a collaboration. Frasha is no more, life as solo artist is not like he thought. I think he now knows about the power of completion in a group. He is now fond of weak verses and nursery rhymes than any rapper I know. Buganya’s growth has been amazing, from when he started to generate attention as solo artist singing ‘Paulina’ with Jimwat in early 2000s.
Like an unwritten law in their group’s constitution, Buganya always killed the first verse, Frasha came second, Bon’eye was last and least. Buganya did his thing with ease, fun and some sort of naughtiness. Frasha was good but it wasn’t had to notice that he strained to beat or match Buganya.
And Buganya is prolific, since the group broke up to pursue individual careers he has his works out more than other members. His music is playing in households, on radio, tv, clubs and weddings. He is one of the successful artists in genge history, fusing his craft with entrepreneurship. He commands respect as a colorful genge singer/rapper and the proprietor of Celebrity Merchandise Ltd, a company and Gudu Holdings.
