President Uhuru Kenyatta will host his counterpart Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi during the Madaraka Day celebrations to be held in Kisumu County on Tuesday.
State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena during a press briefing at the Kisumu Statehouse on Saturday said President Kenyatta will jet in Kisumu on Sunday for a three-day official visit of the County and the Nyanza Region. The head of state will be accompanied by the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
The visiting head of state is expected in the country on Monday together with the First Lady of the Republic of Burundi, Angeline Ndayubaha for a two-day state visit.
During the visit to Kisumu, the two presidents will tour various national government projects in the County and the Nyanza Region to commission completed projects, inspect ongoing ones, and launch new projects.
They will be joined on the tour by several national and regional leaders including the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o and other local leaders.
President Ndayishimiye will be the Guest of Honour during the Madaraka Day celebrations that will be held in strict compliance with the national Covid-19 containment protocols.
Kenya will be marking the 59th Madaraka Day celebrations at the new Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu County.
Dena revealed that Mrs. Kenyatta and her Burundi counterpart will engage in a number of programme s whose details will be shared with the media on a rolling basis.
President Kenyatta appealed to Kenyans to continue observing the Covid-19 containment measures as directed by the Ministry of Health.
“The President particularly appeals to the passionate residents of Kisumu City to give the best account of themselves by avoiding situations that may compromise national efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic,” a statement from the Statehouse read.
Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o said only 3,000 guests have been invited to attend the celebrations while Kisumu residents and Kenyans at large have been urged to remain indoors and follow the event on radios and televisions.
President Kenyatta will unveil the Sh 600 million Uhuru Business Park and Market Complex and the Kisumu Port among other various projects to be communicated later.
