CDF official caught on camera beating up a needy student disappears from police cell

Police at Kenyanya station are at pains to explain how a suspect went missing from their custody.

Ex-CDF official at Bomachoge Borabu Constituency in Kisii County Samuel Nyandika Onchera was in police custody for assaulting a student.

Onchera was arrested among two other suspects after a video went viral online of them assaulting the student Anthony Machoka outside Bomachoge Borabu Constituency development offices.

Reports have intimated that Onchera vanished from police custody on Wednesday night under unclear circumstances.

Two police officers who were on duty on the night he disappeared have since recorded statements and they are under investigations.

The student who was assaulted by the trio had told journalists that when he went to record a statement with the police, he was instead arrested and forced to pay Sh5,000 cash bail.

“I never withdrew the case from the police, they threatened me that they could charge me with creating disturbance forcing me to take cover,” Machoka said.

Area MP Prof Zadoc Abel Ogutu confirmed that the three staff seen in the clip roughing up the victim had been sacked.

The incident has raised mixed reactions from locals with others calling for the immediate prosecution of the suspects.
