Chaos At Kisumu County Assembly As Rival Groups Clash Over Bid To Oust Speaker Oloo Following His Graft Charges

House business at Kisumu county assembly came to a standstill after two separate groups clashed following a proposal to impeach Speaker Onyango Oloo who is currently facing graft charges.

A group of rowdy youths on Tuesday, September 9, staged protests at the county assembly calling for removal of Oloo even as MCAs met to decide on fate of the embattled Speaker.

The situation at the Kisumu County Assembly on Tuesday, September 10. Group of youth stormed the premises to demand for replacement of the Speaker over graft.

Speaking to the press, Market Milimani ward MCA Seth Kanga confirmed a proposal had indeed been tabled seeking to force the Speaker to step aside owing to the corruption allegations he was facing.

According to the ward rep, it is now expected that leaders implicated in corruption should step aside to pave way for investigations and as members of the ODM party they would ensure the law is followed.

Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji on September 6 ordered for arrest and prosecution of Oloo and others over inflation of costs of the construction of Lake Basin Mall in Kisumu.

The DPP accused Oloo and his co-accused of deliberately inflating the costs of the project from KSh 2.5 billion to KSh 4.1 billion.
