Charged UDA Women Out To Overturn Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Leadership

Members of Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation are out to oust their national chairperson Rahab Mwikali whom they say is illegally in office. The group is pushing President William Ruto to direct the NGO board to call for fresh elections in a bid to uproot her from her position.
MWO members especially those allied to the ruling UDA Party claim that corrupt Mwikali was allied to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in the run-up to the last general elections.

She was funded by Kenyatta to frustrate Ruto’s presidential bid and her recent move to meet the new president should have been thwarted at all costs.

The rogue chairperson is also being accused of bullying county coordinators and kicking some out of their positions. UDA women are now directing county coordinators and other government officials to keep off the organisation’s affairs as they are being misled and used by Mwikali to fight her adversaries.

The women who supported Ruto for presidency are doing everything possible to ensure that Mwikali does not get a plum position in UDA government arguing that she cannot pinpoint any project that she has initiated to alleviate the lives of Kenyan women.

Only former Kitui governor, Charity Ngilu, former Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson Zipporah Kittony, and her founder members Jane Kiano, Phoebe Asiyo are putting up efforts to have Mwikali hang at the helm of the organisation for their own selfish interests.

But UDA women also accuse Mwikali of altering the organisation’s constitution without following due process which should be through a referendum by women members of the organisation to enact any changes.

The calls for her removal have forced the powerful Mwikali to now hire General Service Unit officers from her Kamba tribe to guard the Maendeleo House offices, along Monrovia Street, despite the women organisation having its own security stationed at the entrance of the building.

The women are also accusing former ministry of Public Service and Gender CS Margaret Kobia of being the stumbling block towards the removal of Mwikali at Maendeleo ya Wanawake House but they have confidence that the new CS Aisha Jumwa will not swallow the bait.

Mwikali is also is also super corrupt, she is milking the organisation dry. She swindled millions of shillings during Maendeleo ya Wanawake 70th anniversary as she lies to women to embrace unity and integrity to promote development at the grassroots level.

She has also been fleecing Thamini Mjane Fund under Women Enterprise Fund which offers interest free loans to assist widows improve their livelihood through business.

Mwikali also looting through the construction of a head office in Mombasa after completion of the first one in Nairobi. She overseeing the ongoing construction without full participation of other members.
Inua Biashara Fund which was initiated to support women, youth and people living with disabilities in enterprise is another cash cow while other projects including the ambitious Cooperative Development Fund, an affirmative fund which offers loans at a rate of 5pc to groups have completely flopped.

Other major projects have also stalled including Inua Mama na Kuku project which aimed to distribute chicks to women groups to help them improve their livelihood through chicken rearing.

Going by the accusations leveled against her, Mwikali remains an enthusiastically corrupt person and not fit to hold any public office.
