Chepkirui Kones remains in the spotlight of Bomet politics as the 2027 General Election nears, as she has officially declared her interest in occupying the senatorial seat on April 28, 2026.
Chepkirui Kones’ campaign has been based on three pillars: grassroots mobilisation, youth empowerment, and women’s leadership. She recently switched her registration to Bomet County, which makes her eligible to run for that office.
Kones is also a descendant of the late former minister Kipkalya Kones and is married to Nelson Koech. She has, however, been busy establishing her political profile by meeting the populace, church leaders, youth groups, farmers, and women’s groups throughout Bomet.
Chepkirui Kones has appealed to the locals to embrace inclusive and people-centred leadership in the wake of the slogan “KakuuRaa,” which loosely translates to “It is time for Chepkirui to lead.”
She has already made an impact on political discussion in Bomet, compelling her opponents to be more vocal even before the official campaign season has begun.
The race is turning out to be a hard one and may see current Senator Hillary Sigei, Governor Hillary Barchok, and former Governor Isaac Rutto, who is still influential in South Rift politics.
