Residents of Tiaty consistency were treated to a rare political confrontation between their MP William Kamket and Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter.
Keter had visited the area to inspect the ongoing construction of a geothermal project when he was confronted by Kamket and a section of other leaders from Baringo county who accused him of sidelining them.
The drama that unfolded on Friday, September 28, saw the agitated Kamket castigate Keter for traversing the area without informing him despite making calls to seek his confirmation.
“What is wrong in telling us you were coming here you are a senior government officer, you did not communicate to us and when I called you lied that you were not coming, why are you doing this, madharau ni ya nini (why are you underrating us)? ranted Kamket
The verbal spat that almost degenerated into physical confrontation left locals and workers at the construction site watching helplessly.
“Why are you isolating us, we are not fools, we just heard about your presence through rumours, chungana na hasira ya mjinga,” warned the Tiaty MP.
In his defence, Keter said he was only familiarising himself with the project before meeting local leaders to discuss pertinent issues they were raising.
“We have never sat, this is the first time am visiting the place. The MP has been calling me several times demanding to come in my office to discuss the matter but I preferred to come and see the project before meeting him,” said the CS
