Comedian says he was accused of killing Ayeiya, demanded to pay Sh21 million compensation
Paul Ogutu ‘Wakimani’

Comedian Paul ‘Wakimani’ Ogutu has for the first time opened up on what he has been going through since the death of comedian Ayeiya.

According to the comedian, he sank into depression after the wife of the late comedian served him with court documents demanding that he pays KSh 21 million as compensation.

The comedian said that the late Ayeiya’s family accused him of causing the death of their loved one and took him to court.

“After burying Ayeiya, we came back to Nairobi, and when we came back, I thought that everyone understood that it was an accident. So after a week or two, Ayeiya’s wife called me and told me she had my letter and I told her I would go see her after I was done with whatever I was doing

“So that day I was not able to meet her so I met her on the second day. On that second day, she was serving me a court order that I am supposed to pay for killing her husband,” said the comedian.

Wakimani confirmed what comedienne Zeddy said during an interview with Jalang’o that he was asked to pay KSh 21 million.

The comedian said he had tried to work things out with Ayeiya’s family but with no success.

“It is not a lie what Zeddy said, that I am being asked to pay KSh21 million and it is not a lie what the bloggers said that the family is demanding for money from me.

“The family has been constant, and on my end, I have tried to make things work between me and the family,” he said.

He further stated the case was in court and had stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In his interview, the comedian said his lawyer once called and told him that he had been served with a letter that said the late comedian used to earn KSh 300,000 per month.

“One day my lawyer called and told me there was my letter which had been taken to his office and it stated that Ayeiya used to earn KSh 300,000 a month.

“So since Ayeiya was earning KSh 300,000 every month and he died at 31 when he is retiring, he is supposed to retire at the age of 55, so they did the math of the amount multiplied by 12 and the remaining years before he hits 55 years.

“If you look at the court charges, I am still taking care of the damages so roughly it was heading to around KSh 20 million,” added the comedian.

Comedian Ayeiya passed away in 2017 following a grisly road accident.

He died on Magadi road after the vehicle he was in reportedly lost control and hit an electric pole.
