Cornered Sonko is ready to pack and go

The embattled Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has stated that he is ready to leave his position and go following the looming impeachment plotted at Raila Odinga’s office.

Minority Leader Michael Ogada and other 82 MCAs want to impeach the Governor over Sh37.2 billion county budget.

Ogada also wants the flashy governor sent home based on four charges including gross violation of the law with the electorates having up to Wednesday next week to their views on the planned impeachment of Sonko.

But the controversial governor who has been barred from office over corruption charges made a post on Twitter on Friday night stating that he is not afraid of a good or  a bad outcome.

The now hopeless Sonko further ranted that he did not need to be saved from the process but he will stand firm like the Senate did when dealing with the County Revenue Bill.

The governor has slim chances after a total of 86 out of 122 MCAs appended their signatures to the motion. The number has surpassed the threshold to table a notice of impeachment motion.

But MCAs allied to Governor Mike Sonko claim that the plot to  impeach the popular county boss was arched after he refused to assent to the bill on the Sh37.5 billion 2020-21 budget that would further the operations of Gen. Mohammed Badi led NMS.

They further revealed that the impeachment was plotted at the ODM leader Raila Odinga’s office at Capital Hill where Sonko’s impeachment topped the agenda of two meetings held on Monday.

The cornered governor has survived several impeachment plots befrore including in February when a court saved him from impeachment.

Sonko faced several charges including the abuse of office and looting from the county coffers through shady deals with associates for kickbacks.

The outspoken governor who is currently embroiled in a heated war of words with the NMS Director Maj-Gen Mohamed Badi said he will not grant NMS Sh27.1 billion from the county budget.
